Mission Free Iran Hosts New York City Action for International Day in Support of Political Prisoners in Iran

On 20 June 2012 in New York City, Mission Free Iran will host one of 28 global demonstrations to support political prisoners in Iran. Information about the event is as follows:

Schedule
11:00 – Event opens with handing out flyers, postcards, and holding a petition signing.

12:00 – Speakers:
12-12:30: Ahmad Fatemi, Mission Free Iran: Teach-in: The relationship between political imprisonment in Iran to the global Occupy/99% movement
12:30-12:40: Banafsheh Zand-Bonazzi, Iran180: The struggle of Iranian people for freedom in historical context
12:40-12:50: Ramin Haghjoo: The jailing, torture and execution of LGBT in Iran
12:50-1:00: Hassan Massali, Action for Democracy & Human Rights in the Middle East
1:00-1:10: Statement on behalf of Unity for Democracy and Justice in Iran
1:10-1:20: Betty Maloney, Radical Women: In support of female political prisoners in Iran
1:20-1:35: Open microphone, 5 minutes per speaker
1:35-1:40: Ahmad Fatemi, Mission Free Iran: Closing statement

1:40-2:00: March around the UN offices; includes protest chants against political imprisonment in Iran and against the Islamic regime in Iran.

2:00-3:00: Continue with flyering and petition-signing action.

Organization of the Action
Mission Free Iran is organizing the 20 June event in New York City in coordination with Campaign to Free Political Prisoners in Iran, hand in hand with cooperating organizations and activists, including Unity for Democracy and Justice in Iran, Women’s Alliance for Change in Iran, Action for Democracy and Human Rights in the Middle East.

Participation & Demands
We welcome participation from any individual or group that supports the demands of the action:

1. We demand the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in Iran.

2. We demand a halt to all current execution sentences, and a halt to issuing further such sentences by the Islamic judiciary system in Iran.

3. We demand that the Islamic regime of Iran must be isolated politically and diplomatically on an international level, and their diplomats and delegates must be expelled from all international organizations, including the United Nations, and especially the UN Commission on the Status of Women and the International Labour Organization (ILO).

4. We demand the closure of the embassies and offices of the Islamic regime of Iran.
