Behrouz was arrested and imprisoned for the first time during the bloody suppression of university students in 1999. Behrouz, like thousands of other students, opposed the despotism, violence, suppression and censorship of the Islamic regime. Demanding freedom of speech and belief at this moment in history, in a digitally networked era when collapse of censorship is inevitable, is not an egregiously large demand, but then, any demand of the Islamic regime is great. Any demand is opposition, and any voice is a cry of protest, political protest. This is a reality that everybody knows. This regime has been backed into a corner, and cannot maneuver in the face of peoples’ demands. Any demand, even the demand of wages that have gone unpaid for a year, a year and a half, shakes the foundations of this regime, necessitates calling up the security forces and dispatching the Basij and the plainclothes hyenas with their chains, knives and cables to the streets, and gives the color and smell of politics to the scene.
Behrouz had joined that gathering of thousands of other students in 1999 to defend human rights, the vital rights of freedom of speech and thought, so that workers could freely defend their violated rights; so that women would not be subjected to sexual discrimination and oppression; so that advocates of the rights of children would not be arrested, beaten up, tortured and imprisoned; so that working children could go back to school and children of the streets would be protected, with a roof over their heads and a warm meal in their bellies. Behrouz too, like thousands of other students, demanded equal rights for everyone… ; such a demand is so fundamental, so essential, that its expression is always inevitable.
You have certainly heard of the savage and craven assault against the student movement of 1999. Hundreds of thugs, plainclothes villains, and basijis were dispatched in the night to the students’ dormitory. They massacred the students, students who had not asked for anything more than freedom. They threw students from the rooftops down to the street below; they killed with knives and blades and daggers; they arrested thousands of young people, executed some and disappeared many others.
Behrouz was arrested for the first time then, Behrouz and more than a thousand others. Behrouz was only 22 then. He was, like any other arrested student, savagely tortured. He was kept in solitary confinement for 10 whole months, to break him with captivity because he had asked for freedom – freedom, which for a human being is like the air we breathe: essential and vital. They released Behrouz in 2004 for a short while. Behrouz, who was not broken!
Behrouz Javid Tehrani was arrested for the second and third time in the same year, 2004. The second time because he had exposed to the media realities that everyone knows in Iran – exposed what had happened to him, and to those like him, in the prison. For the third time, he was arrested on the charges of “intention to participate” in a protest outside the UN offices in Tehran. Observe: he was arrested on charges of “intention,” not participation!
In the regime’s court, they sentenced him on the above charges to imprisonment and lashes. Behrouz told the judge who imposed the sentence of lashing: “If intention to participate is a punishable crime, if such a crime could be proven, it is a crime of the mind! Why then do you destroy my back?!” Of course Behrouz, like us, could not have expected that the Islamic judge, a stellar representative of the most ignorant of Iran, would understand this irony.
From that day, Behrouz has been in prison. This time, they have even tried to break him by incarcerating him in Rajaei Shahr, a prison for the criminal elements of society: perpetrators of violence, drug addicts — non-political prisoners. Behrouz has been in prison from that day. From that day until this moment, numerous freedom-loving students have been detained, imprisoned, executed, killed, or disappeared. All of these atrocities are the regime’s answers to peoples’ demands for freedom and justice, and the Islamic regime must be held to account for them. Demanding freedom is not a crime. This – the struggle for freedom and social justice – is a humane responsiblity. This is the responsibility of civilized human beings. And it is our responsibility to ensure that these criminals are prosecuted for all of their crimes, among them, the brutal suppression of 1999. This is a responsibility that Behrouz, as the last remaining representative of the 1999 student movement still in prison, has placed in our hands from the depths of the regime’s torture house. Behrouz should not have spent a day in prison for demanding freedom; his right to demand freedom is enshrined in international law. Freedom is a universal right of every human being.
The last time we heard from Behrouz, he had been summoned to the sentence execution office and lashed in relation to a hunger strike. In one of the very few visits that Behrouz has had with his family, his physical condition has been described as very critical. Evidence of torture was displayed on his flesh and in the movements of his arms and legs. He has lost 50 percent of his sight due to repeated blows to the back of his head by the feral Islamic swine. He has internal bleeding, and because of the beatings he has been subjected to, his knee can no longer carry his weight. Behrouz says that the prison’s hospital intentionally ignores his condition.
Another 16 Azar is approaching. There are rumors of another 16 Azar more glorious than the years before. In Iran, nobody doubts that the Islamic Republic is taking its last gasps above a shuddering foundation. In Iran, nobody doubts that the day is near when once again, the gates of prisons are thrown open under the power of freedom-loving people, and all political prisoners, these children of Iran, return to the thankful bosom of the people. But our endeavor today is for the freedom of Behrouz and his friends – all political prisoners. Our endeavor today, to secure unconditional freedom for all of them, brings that glorious day, a day without the ominous existence of the political prison, closer.
Join hands with us to carry Behrouz’s message to the rest of the world. Behrouz does not demand anything but freedom and a humane society, and no one anywhere should be detained, tortured, imprisoned for this. Behrouz should be freed today. Let us be his voice! Let us strive to win the freedom of the last survivor of the 1999 student movement!

Documents related to the case of Behrouz Javid Tehrani’s case, as part of the evidence in connection to Iranian people and the civilized human world, indictment against elements of the Islamic regime from the jailer to the supreme leader, would be produced to the international legal institutions.

آخرین بازمانده جنبش دانشجوی ۱۹۹۹ در زندان رژیم جهل و سرکوب
بهروز را برای اولین بار در جریان سرکوب خونین دانشجویان در سال ۱۹۹۹ دستگیر و زندانی کردند. بهروز هم مثل هزاران دانشجوی دیگر به استبداد و خشونت و سرکوب و سانسور معترض بود. خواست آزادی بیان و عقیده در این عصر، دوران فروپاشی اجباری و غیر قابل کنترل سانسور که خواست عجیبی نیست؟ اما هر خواستی از رژیم اسلامی “بزرگ” است! هر خواستی مخالفت است و هر صدایی اعتراض است، اعتراضی سیاسی. این واقعیتی است که امروز همه میدانند. این رژیم جایی برای مانور سیاسی ندارد. هر خواستی، حتی خواست پرداخت دستمزدهای پرداخت نشده یک ساله و یک سال و نیمه هم ارکان این رژیم را تکان میدهد، نیروهای سرکوب را به آماده باش ومیدارد، کفتاران بسیج و لباس شخصی را با زنجیر ها، قمهها و کابلهایشان به خیابان میکشاند و رنگ و بوی سیاسی میگیرد.
بهروز برای دفاع از حق انسانی، حق حیاتی آزادی بیان و اندیشه به جمع هزاران نفری دانشجویان پیوسته بود تا کارگران بتوانند آزادانه از حقوق پایمال شده خود دفاع کنند؛ زنان مورد ستم و تبعیض جنسی واقع نشوند؛ فعالین دفاع از حقوق کودک دستگیر نشوند، کتک نخورند، شکنجه و زندانی نشوند؛ کودکان کار به مدرسه باز گردند و کودکان خیابان حمایت شوند، سقفی بالای سر و شکمی سیر داشته باشند. بهروز هم مانند هزاران دانشجوی دیگر طالب حقوق برابر زن و مرد بود…..و اینها خواستههایی ابتدایی، حیاتی، و بنابر این غیر قابل اجتناب هستند.
در مورد سرکوب وحشیانه جنبش دانشجویی سال ۱۹۹۹ حتما شنیدهاید. صدها لات و چاقو کش لباس شخصی و بسیجی را شبانه به کوی دانشگاه ریختند، دانشجویان رو که چیزی بیشتر از آزادی نخواسته بودند به خاک و خون کشاندند،عدّهای را از پنجرهها به خیابان پرتاب کردند، تعدادی را با تیغ و چاقو و قمه کشتند و هزاران نفر را دستگیر کردند و عدّهای را سر به نیست!
بهروز را برای اولین بار در آن موقع دستگیر کردند.بهروز و بیش از هزار نفر دیگر را. بهروز که آن هنگام فقط ۲۲ سال داشت مثل هر دانشجوی دستگیر شده دیگری وحشیانه شکنجه شد. او ده ماه تمام در حبس انفرادی بود. میخواستند که خوردش کنند چرا که خواستار آزادی بود. آزادی که برای انسان مثل هوایی که استنشاق میکند ضروری و حیاتی است. بهروز را در سال ۲۰۰۴ برای مدت کوتاهی آزاد کردند. بهروز را که نشکسته بود!
بهروز جاوید تهرانی برای بار دوم و سوم در همان سال ۲۰۰۴ دستگیر شد. بار دوم برای افشا کردن حقیقتی که در ایران و در آن هنگام همه میدانستند. برای افشای آنچه که بر او و امثال او در زندان رفته بود. بار سوم او را در خیابان و به جرم “قصد شرکت” در یک تجمع اعتراضی در مقابل ساختمان سازمان ملل در تهران دستگیر کردند. توجه کنید: به جرم “قصد شرکت” و نه شرکت در آن تظاهرات!
در دادگاه رژیم او را به اتهام قصد شرکت در تظاهرات به شلاق و حبس محکوم کردند. بهروز به قاضی گفته بود قصد شرکت اگر جرم و قابل مجازات باشد، اگر این “جرم” را بشود اثبات کرد، جرمی است که به مغز من مربوط است، چرا کمرم را زیر شلاق نابود میکنید؟! البته بهروز هم حتما مثل ما انتظار درک این کنایه توسط یک قاضی اسلامی،یکی دیگر از گلهای سرسبد بیشعور ترینهای ایران را نداشت.
از آن تاریخ، بهروز را در زندان نگاه داشته اند. این بار حتی سعی کردهاند او را از طریق انتقال به زندان رجایی شهر که اساساً بزه کاران، معتادین و زندانیان غیر سیاسی را در خود جای داده بشکنند. بهروز از آن تاریخ در زندان است ، از آن تاریخ تا به امروز دانشجویان آزادی خواه زیادی دستگیر، زندانی ، شکنجه، زندانی، اعدام، کشته و یا سربه نیست شده اند. اینهمه جنایت در پاسخ آزادی خواهی و عدالت طلبی. رژیم اسلامی باید پاسخ همه این جنایت را بدهد.آزادی خواهی جرم نیست، این، مبارزه برای آزادی و عدالت اجتمایی حتی وظیفهای انسانیست. و این وظیفه انسانیت متمدن، وظیفه همه ماست که این جنایتکاران را به جرم تمام جنایاتشان و از جمله سرکوب وحشیانه ۱۹۹۹ به محاکمه بکشیم. این وظیفه ایست که بهروز به نمایندگی جنبش دانشجویی سال ۱۹۹۹، هنوز در زندان و از قعر سیاهچال رژیم بر دوش همه ما گذاشته است. بهروز نمیبایست حتی یک روز هم به جرم آزادی خواهی در زندان میبود و این قانونی جهانی و التزام آور است. آزادی خواهی حقی جهانشمول است.
آخرین خبری که از بهروز داشتیم این بود که در ارتباط با یک اعتصاب غذای دیگر در هفتههای گذشته و در اعتراض به زندانی بودنش او را یکبار دیگر به شلاق کشیده اند.
در یکی از معدود ملاقاتهایی که بهروز با خانوادهاش داشت، وضعیت جسمی او را بشدت بحرانی توصیف کردهاند. آثار شکنجه بر بدن او و در حرکات دست و پایش پیداست. بهروز بخشی از بینایی خود را به دلیل ضرباتی که جانوران اسلامی به سر او وارد کرده اند از دست داده است. خونریزی داخلی دارد، زانوی صدمه دیدهاش تحمل وزنش را ندارد و بهروز میگوید بهداری زندان تعمدا از رسیدگی به وضعیت جسمانی او خود داری میکند.
۱۶ آذر دیگری فرامیرسد. صحبت از ۱۶ آذری باشکوهتر از سالهای قبل بگوش میرسد. در ایران هیچ کسی تردی ندارد که نفس قاتلان اسلامی به تنگی افتاده است و ارکانش در حال فروپاشیدن است. در ایران هیچ کسی تردیدی ندارد که آن روز نزیک است که یکبار دیگر درهای زندانها به نیروی مردم آزادی خواه باز شود و همه زندانیان سیاسی این فرزندان ایران به آغوش پر امتنان مردم باز گردند…اما تلاش امروز ما برای آزادی بهروز و یارانش، تمام زندانیان سیاسی، تلاش امروز ما برای آزادی بی قید و شرط آنها آن لحظه فرخنده را که در ایران دیگر پدیده نحسی به اسم زندان سیاسی وجود نداشته باشد نزدیک تر میکند.
بیایید تا پیام بهروز را به گوش همه عالم برسانیم. بهروز جز آزادی و یک جامعه انسانی خواست دیگری ندارد و هیچ کس در هیچ کجا نباید به این دلیل بازداشت، شکنجه و زندانی شود. بهروز باید امروز آزاد شود. بیایید صدای بهروز باشیم.
برای آزادی بهروز ، آخرین بازمانده دانشجویان زندانی جنبش ۱۹۹۹ بکوشیم.
