150 U.S. Labor Organizations Affiliated with U.S. Labor Against the War Demand Immediate & Unconditional Release of Iranian Political Prisoners and Labor Activists Zamani and Jarahi

Below is the letter sent by Michael Eisenscher, the National Coordinator of the organization
U.S. Labor Against the War the War (USLAW), which represents 150 US labor organizations. They have written to the regime in Iran to demand the immediate and unconditional release of political prisoners and labor activists Shahrokh Zamani and Mohamad Jarahi.

Subject: Islamic Republic of Iran is responsible for Shahrokh Zamani’s life

Dear Sirs:

Mr. Shahrokh Zamani, a member of the Founding Board of the Syndicate of Paint Workers of Tehran and the Committee to Pursue the Establishment of Workers Organizations has been on hunger strike since March 8, 2014. He is reportedly incarcerated at Ghezel Hesar prison in the city of Karaj. His health is in great jeopardy.

Shahrokh Zamani was originally arrested with Mr. Mohamad Jarahi in June of 2011. Branch 1 of the Tabriz Islamic Revolutionary Court sentenced Shahrokh Zamani to 11 years and Mohammad Jarahi to five years imprisonment after conviction on charges including “acting against national security by establishing or membership of groups opposed to the system” and “spreading propaganda against the establishment”. The “trial” did not meet international standards for a fair adjudication of the charges, and the charges themselves violate internationally recognized standards for freedom of association and expression and the right of workers to organize into a union of their choosing free of government interference, harassment or retaliation.

I write on behalf of the 150 U.S. labor organizations that are affiliated with U.S. Labor Against the War (USLAW) to register our strongest objection to these violations of Shahrokh Zanmani and Mohamad Jarahi’s basic human rights and their mistreatment while incarcerated. In the interests of justice and in recognition of the threat posed by the deteriorating condition of Mr. Zamani’s health, we call upon you to immediate release them, to expunge their criminal records and to cease your government’s interference with their rights and internationally recognized standards for the right to organize, bargain and strike.

آقای شاهرخ زمانی، عضو هیات موسس سندیکای کارگران نقاش تهران و کمیته پیگیری ایجاد تشکل های کارگری، از تاریخ ۸ مارس ۲۰۱۴ در اعتصاب غذا به سر می برد. بنابرگزارشات موجود، وی در زندان قزل حصار در شهر کرج محبوس است. سلامتی وی در معرض خطر جدی قرار دارد.

آقای شاهرخ زمانی، عضو هیات موسس سندیکای کارگران نقاش تهران و کمیته پیگیری ایجاد تشکل های کارگری، از تاریخ ۸ مارس ۲۰۱۴ در اعتصاب غذا به سر می برد. بنابرگزارشات موجود، وی در زندان قزل حصار در شهر کرج محبوس است. سلامتی وی در معرض خطر جدی قرار دارد.شاهرخ زمانی در ابتدا به همراه محمد جراحی در ماه جون ۲۰۱۱ دستگیر شد. شعبه یک دادگاه انقلاب اسلامی تبریز، به اتهام “اقدام علیه امنیت امنیت ملی از طریق تشکیل و عضویت در گروههای مخالف نظام” و “تبلیغ علیه نظام”، شاهرخ زمانی را به ۱۱ سال و محمد جراحی را به ۵ سال زندان محکوم نمود. “محاکمه” آنها فاقد استانداردهای بین المللی برای یک قضاوت عادلانه نسبت به اتهامات وارده بود. بعلاوه چنین اتهاماتی به خودی خود به معنای نقض استانداردهای بین المللی برای آزادی تشکل و بیان و حق کارگران برای ایجاد آزادانه اتحادیه کارگری مطبوع خود بدون دخالت، اذیت و آزار و انتقامگیری دولت می باشند.

من به نمایندگی از ۱۵۰ تشکل کارگری در ایالت متحده آمریکا که وابسته به ” کارگران آمریکا علیه جنگ” هستند، قوی ترین اعتراض خود را نسبت به نقض ابتدایی ترین حقوق انسانی شاهرخ زمانی و محمد جراحی و اذیت و آزار آنها در هنگام حبس اعلام می نمایم.

به منظور تامین عدالت و با به رسمیت شناختن تهدید ناشی از شرایط رو به وخامت سلامت آقای زمانی، ما از شما می خواهیم که آنها را بلافاصله آزاد کنید، سوابق و جرایم جنایی علیه آنها را حذف کنید و به مداخله و مزاحمت دولتی علیه حقوق آ‌نها و علیه استانداردهای بین المللی مبنی بر حق سازماندهی، مذاکره و اعتصاب پایان دهید.
