Protest Announcements, Solidarity with Refugees

Let’s Go, People: Global Day of Action, Wednesday March 31

FREE JAMAL!
WEDNESDAY MARCH 31st IS THE GLOBAL DAY OF ACTION FOR JAMAL SABERI (JALAL AMANZADEH NOUEI)

WASHINGTON DC: 1-3PM IN FRONT OF THE JAPANESE EMBASSY
(2520 Massachusetts Ave NW, Washington DC)

Please remember: you are fighting to save Jamal, but you are also fighting:

— FOR thousands of Iranian and non-Iranian refugees worldwide, &

— AGAINST the Islamic Regime’s ongoing efforts to silence dissent outside its borders

It is important that we continue to pressure Japan to release Saberi; if we continue the pressure and publicity, we will meet with success. But that means that YOU have to get out there, stand up, and make yourself heard.

How to do that? It is as simple as taking out a permit (call your city police department and they will tell you how to do that), and showing up in front of the Embassy or consulate with a sign that demands freedom and refugee status for Jalal Amanzadeh Nouei (Jamal Saberi).*

Your sign can be as simple as a piece of 8×11 paper, or pretend you’re going back to your school days: go to the local shop, pick up a piece of posterboard, and use a thick marker or some paint to make your sign. It is easy to make very effective homemade signs. Below are some examples of simple home-made signs. I prefer to make my signs from foamcore board (~$3.00/sheet at Michaels other art/craft supply shops) because the wind won’t bend them.

Examples of simple-to-make signs for the Saberi campaign in front of the Japanese Embassy:

japan hunts refugees for khamenei

deportation is execution

* For those wondering why we use two names for Jamal, we have learned that the Japanese authorities are pretending not to recognize Jamal Saberi as his usual name, rather only recognizing efforts on his behalf when they are made in the name of Jalal Amanzadeh Nouei.

Below are all of the addresses of Japanese Embassies and consulates in the US. There is still time to obtain permits to demonstrate. Even one person with a sign can be an effective presence. Try to get a picture of your action in front of the Embassy.

We have all had to do this for the first time ourselves – if you haven’t done it before, it seems daunting, but anyone can do it. Don’t be shy! :)

Finally, if you can’t manage to hold a demonstration outside of your Embassy or consulate, please pick up the phone and call to express your concern over Japan’s illegal deportation of human rights activist Jalal Amanzadeh Nouei (Jamal Saberi). US Embassy and Consulate General address and contact information is provided below; Japanese Embassies and Consulates worldwide can be found here.
